BORA Business Suite: system requirements

BORA Business Suite (BORA BS) is an application that runs on Microsoft Windows operating systems and uses Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Software requirements ( Software requirements )

To use BORA Business Suite you need the following software:
  • Supported databases: Microsoft SQL Server (including the free Microsoft SQL Server Express) versions 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022;
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (if it is included in the Windows installation, it can be added from Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off, .NET Framework 3.5)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 (if it is included in the Windows installation, it can be added from Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off, .NET Framework 4.x)
  • Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types Needed to install Microsoft Report Viewer Runtime x86 - SQLSysClrTypes (for 32-bit Operating System) x64 - SQLSysClrTypes (for 64-bit Operating System)
  • Microsoft Report Viewer 2012 Runtime Used in some of the reports in the system.
  • 2010 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components (also known as Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable). Needed to export from some lists in BORA BS when MS Office 2007 or later is not installed, or when this component was not installed with MS Office. BORA BS uses the x86 (32-bit) version of this component, so the x86 (32-bit) version must be installed even on x64 (64-bit) Windows installations.
  • Microsoft Office Optional. Required when using features that export documents by automatically filling in templates in MS Office format.

Hardware requirements ( Hardware requirements )

The server hardware requirements for BORA Business Suite depend on the features used, the number of users, the type of installation and other factors, and it is best to agree them for the specific case. Typically a separate database server is used together with a BORA BS server, plus separate server(s) for the BORA BS client (with Remote Desktop Services) and/or client workstations with a locally installed BORA BS client. For smaller installations all roles can be combined and installed on one server.

Minimum hardware requirements for the database server (MS SQL Server) and BORA Business Suite server (BORA BS server):

  • Hardware that meets the minimum requirements of the relevant supported operating system;
  • Processor 1.4 GHz or faster;
  • RAM 16 GB;
  • Disk space: what the operating system needs + 8 GB of disk space to install MS SQL Server + 2 GB for a 1 GB database + 2 GB of disk space to install the BORA BS application server (roughly, for a database of up to 1 GB, about 100 GB in total).

Minimum hardware requirements for the BORA BS client server (using RDS terminal services):

  • Hardware that meets the minimum requirements of the relevant supported operating system;
  • Processor 1.4 GHz or faster;
  • RAM 8 GB + 300 MB of RAM for each instance/user of the application (for 30 users, about 9 GB more);
  • Disk space: what the operating system needs + 1 GB of free disk space to install the BORA BS client + about 100 MB of disk space for each application user (for 30 users, about 3 GB more).

Minimum hardware requirements for the local BORA Business Suite client (using RDS terminal services):

  • Hardware that meets the minimum requirements of the relevant supported operating system;

Minimum hardware requirements for the local BORA Business Suite client (without RDS terminal services):

  • Hardware that meets the minimum requirements of the relevant supported operating system;
  • Processor 1.4 GHz or faster;
  • RAM 2 GB + 300 MB for each additional instance of the application;
  • Disk space: 500 MB of free disk space for installation.
